Use of Virtual Surfaces for Prediction of Real Rough Soil Surfaces Brightness in Any Illumination and Viewing Conditions

چکیده

Virtual surfaces discussed in the paper are sets of input data of the geometrical model of soil bidirectional reflectance in the optical domain which predict the reflectance behaviour of rough soil surfaces in any illumination and viewing conditions. Equal-sized opaque spheroids lying on a freely sloping plane, describe the soil surface. They are absorbed into the ground of the slope plane having their tops at a given height above the ground. The spheroids are dispersed in a net of squares of given sides. The geometrical structure is illuminated by the direct solar beams and diffuse light. The virtual surfaces are discussed on the background of their real equivalents, soil surfaces developed from dune sand and sandy loam.

Reeectance and Texture of Real-world Surfaces Reeectance and Texture of Real World Surfaces

In this work, we investigate the visual appearance of real-world surfaces and the dependence of appearance on scale, viewing direction and illumination direction. At ne scale, surface variations cause local intensity variation or image texture. The appearance of this texture depends on both illumination and viewing direction and can be characterized by the BTF (bidirectional texture function). ...

Irradiation Orientation from Obliquely Viewed Texture

We studied image texture due to the shading of corrugated (3D textured) surfaces, which are Lambertian on the micro scale. Our theory applies to physically canonical cases of isotropic Gaussian random surfaces, under collimated illumination. In this investigation we analyze effects of oblique viewing, extending our theory which applied to normal viewing conditions only [5]. The theory for norma...

The Analysis and Recognition of Real-World Textures in Three Dimensions

ÐThe observed image texture for a rough surface has a complex dependence on the illumination and viewing angles due to effects such as foreshortening, local shading, interreflections, and the shadowing and occlusion of surface elements. We introduce the dimensionality surface as a representation for the visual complexity of a material sample. The dimensionality surface defines the number of bas...

Seeing Beyond Lambert's Law

Lambert's model for diiuse reeection is extensively used in computational vision. For several real-world objects, the Lambertian model can prove to be a very inaccurate approximation to the diiuse component. While the brightness of a Lambertian surface is independent of viewing direction, the brightness of a rough diiuse surface increases as the viewer approaches the source direction. A compreh...
